News and Announcements
Meet the coaches…
We’ll be updating the team pages on the left once we’ve gotten all of the players accepted. We’ll also place a short biography for our coaches at the same time. However, for a primer…
Coaching the Girls’ 15U team: Jen Neugebauer and Mycalah Bryant
Coaching the Girls’ 16U team: Katie Allen and John Beck
Coaching the Girls’ 17U team: Lauren and Stephen Guignet
Coaching the Boys 18U team: Kyle Anthony and Adam Thatcher
Many recall working with John last year with flicking the hair out of your face for serving, Lauren on some gut-wrenching workouts, or have earned ‘bunnies’ from working with Kyle. Yep…some of that shall be repeated! We look forward to seeing these memories and more being made throughout the upcoming months!
Offers started going out today, and more will be flowing throughout the next couple of days. We look forward to seeing you all at the club wide meeting in a couple of weeks!
WOW! With the successful conclusion of today’s tryouts, our coaching and administrative staff has plenty of work to do. So much talent, skill, athleticism, and zest to cull through just to determine how this season will progress…
Whatever the season holds, this beginning clearly shows that the types of athletes and parents coming together will make UCVC both a family (’ohana) and team (lokahi) to be reckoned with!
We shall begin making our initial offers Monday, and we look forward to moving forward into the pre-season practices.
Good work to all, and we look forward to meeting with you in the next few weeks at the club-wide meeting!
Here we go! Online Tryout Registration is on the gray banner above. For those wanting to print their own copy, check the link below. Boys and girls times are below…bring your athletic gear, hydration, paperwork (if not registered online), and great attitudes!

Sunday, 9 November
- Note: 16s need only attend one tryout. We offer two days for your convenience.
The cost for tryouts is $20 ($22, if by credit card).
Send any questions to Club Director and we’ll get back with you presently.
At the specified time for your age group, join us at the Bel Air Athletic Club with your athletic clothes, shoes, water (recommended), and any medical necessities.
The tryout should last approximately 2 hours with breaks, which will examine skills, athleticisim, sport knowledge, coach-ability, and teamwork. We make but a few promises: you will learn something, you will enjoy yourself, and you will be given a fair chance to be made an offer for a team.
Further and more specific information is listed in the Basic Information page listed here.
We look forward to meeting you!
Estimated Investment: $1300 for a tournament player, $650 for a taxi player, $800 for a 13U player, if on a 13U tournament team

Generally, the season runs from December through early May. Practice is two nights per week, with tournaments running full days on either Saturdays or Sundays (or both if a multi-day tournament). As this is a regional program, our teams travel from Virginia to Delaware and Pennsylvania, with the majority of our tourneys being within Maryland.
Age definitions may be found on this page: http://assets.ngin.com/attachments/document/0061/4231/2015_Age_Definition_20140624.pdf
After tryouts, our coaching staff assembles to compare notes and evaluations. As a club, we weigh the options to determine which players are invited to join teams, and to which team they are invited. Our decisions are focused on an optimization of needs of the player and of the teams to ensure that we build competitive teams that excite and challenge every player therein.
After receiving an invitation, the prospective players have several days to decide if they’d like to join us. Once an invitation is accepted, however, that invitation and acceptance are binding. This will then allow us to muster the teams into a roster, which will then be announced at a club-wide meeting.
At the club meeting, coaching staff and players will meet one another. Parents are encouraged to engage the coaching and administrative staff with any questions that may still linger. Lastly, measurements will be taken to order new uniforms in anticipation of our season.
Bottom line: in order to begin the tryout process, you’ll need to first register with CHRVA (link is also on the homepage) to get your USAV member number. Goto the Tryout Registration tab above and fill out the registration form (or be come early on the tryout day to register on site). Bring your athletic gear, some water, and great energy…prepared to show us a great and coachable athlete…and we’ll all have some fun!
